Ultimate Doctor Who - One Year Online!

Wednesday, December 30, 2009

Well the day has finally come when UDW turns a year old, and I must say, I'm rather proud! Since I started Blogger back in 2008, my posts were rubbish, my banners were rubbish, pretty much everything was rubbish, but it's all about developing, and progressing as the months go on, and I'm happy where UDW is at the moment. :) (emote? really?!)

Ok so, I started UDW on Dec 30th (obviously) last year, with the template Denim, I think... If you look back in the archive you'll probably see examples of my horrible unproffesional posts, but as time goes on you learn to layout your site better, and have nicer looking posts.

Some of my highlights of UDW includes that day in July when I posted .. i don't know how many times .. reports of the filming of Series Five, I was on a posting spree, hehe! Although, with good times comes bad times including several failed attempts to move UDW to a different host. At the end of day, I think UDW will always be on Blogger, there's no better place to host it really...

Then there's the banners. I've made at least a hundred banners, AT LEAST. I tend to go banner crazy at times. *Insert Emote Here*.

Anyway, I'm just happy that I still have Ultimate Doctor Who up and running as of today, here's for UDW's second year, for 2010, and most of all, Series Five!

I can't do this post without thanking everyone who visited. This site would not be here today if I thought I was talking to myself with the news. A special thanks to ...

There's also Ro Lean who left a couple of months ago, but I must thank her as she supported UDW a lot, and looked after the site while I was away, so thanks Ro! :)

All of the above are in no particular order of course ^_^.  Really sorry if I missed you, there's a lot on my mind, including Time Ending!

As I'm writing this there are 61346 hits, 277 posts and 81 followers, once again, thank you all!

UDW Episode Report #2 - The End of Time Part One - Includes Spoilers

Tuesday, December 29, 2009

Pure Epic.

It has been getting mixed reviews, but in my humble opinion, it was shockingly brilliant. But beware, if you have yet to watch this episode, look away now!

The Doctor arrives on the Ood Sphere and Ood Sigma tells him they have been having "bad dreams". The Elder of the Ood warns the return of a mysterious person/creature(?) and shows the Doctor visions of what they have been seeing, including the Master.

This leaves the Doctor in shock, and he rushes to the Tardis and tracks down Time Lord life, but when he arrives to the Master's destination, it is gone. Why? Because there were people who still believed they could bring "Harold Saxon" back to life. His wife, Lucy, is in a jail, and is summoned to a courtyard. It is revealed that the woman's hand we saw picking up a ring at the end of Last of The Timelords was one of these "followers" of the Master, she uses the ring to bring him back to life, even after being warned by Lucy the trouble he will cause.

Lucy attempts to kill him again, by somehow blowing up the jail *ahem*. But of course, everyone dies, except the Master. He has now been living in the wastelands of London, with a hunger. We learn that you definetly do not want to come accross him when he's "hungry".

Anyway, The Doctor finds the Master, but the Master weakens him and they have a conversation until they are interrupted by Joshua Naismith's army who capture The Master and leave the Doctor wounded. Naismith reveals that he has built a gate which can heal you and lead you to immorality, which is exactly what he wants for his daughter, Abigail. He confides in the Master for help.

Meanwhile, The Doctor has been reunited with Wilfred Mott. He questions who Wilf really is, stating that they always come across each other. After having a close encounter with Donna, The Doctor brings along Wilf to where the Master is, which is also where Naismith is, convenient!

They come across the Vinvocci. They explain that the immorality gate "mends" people, but not just one at a time, it mends the whole population. The Doctor rushes to the gate to find the Master's plan taking place in the gate.

This is where it all happens.

The Doctor suggests that it's mind control, but the Master reveals something even worse; they're not going to think like him, the whole world will become him. This part is really bizarre as we see the whole population of Earth turn into the Master with the exception of Wilf, The Doctor and Donna.

Donna frets and she begins to remember her travels with the Doctor which could kill her.

But as if that wasn't a big enough cliffhanger, it emerges that the Narrator was actually a Time Lord, and there are hundreds, even thousands of Time Lords surrounding him ..

Overall Rating: 9/10, I thought everyone becoming The Master was a bit silly!

This story concludes on Friday with Part Two.

UDW Episode Report #1 - The Waters of Mars - Includes Major Spoilers

Sunday, November 15, 2009

Right, I have decided to do a report after every episode of Doctor Who to show my thoughts and feelings on the show! :D MAJOR SPOILERS INCLUDED!

It starts off with the Doctor arriving on Mars for "fun". Meanwhile, the crew at Bowie Base One are doing their usual day-to-day job, not realising this is one of their most important days of their lives.

The Doctor encounters the base but is soon "arrested" by Gadget, the robot. As he is sent to the Base, Adelaide, the captain, questions him and she soon realises he is trustworthy. Meanwhile, Andy and Maggie, other members of the crew, are doing their job, until Andy becomes the first victim of The Flood and turns into a Water Zombie.

The crew soon discover what is going on, and it doesn't take long for other members, Maggie, Tarak and Steffi to be transformed into these monsters by the water. The Doctor reveals that this is meant to happen, and doesnt want to get involved this time it's all fixed. But when Adelaide, and survivng members, Yuri and Mia are struggling to survive, the Doctor can't help but resist and save them.

The Doctor, Adelaide, Yuri, Mia and Gadget arrive on Earth in the TARDIS. Mia frets and runs away, with Yuri chasing after her. Now this is definetly my favourite scene of the whole episode, The Doctor realises that this whole time he wasn't a survivor of the Time Lords, he is the Time Lord Victorious, and embraces on the fact that he now makes the rules. Adelaide attempts to give him a Reality Check, but fails.

To prevent the integrity of the Time Stream, Adelaide walks into her house and commits suicide. The Doctor is shocked and frightened by both his and her actions and realises he went "too far". Ood Sigma appears and is asked by the Doctor if this is his death, but there is no respond and he vanishes. The Doctor runs into the TARDIS, and the cloister bell chimes, meaning The end of the universe, or...

...The End of Time - Christmas 2009.

Overall Rating: 10/10 (One point less and I would have to prosecute myself.) :P

The End of Ultimate Doctor Who, For the Time Being...

Sunday, October 11, 2009

A lot of you may have noticed in the past few weeks, posts have been less frequent and updates have been lacking. And to be honest, I have lost the enthusiasm I used to have when making this site...

I have decided to close down Ultimate Doctor Who for the time being, as I feel running the site has taken up lots of my own time, and with exams coming up next month, I just don't think I will be able to handle running a site and dealing with school work at the same time.

I would like to thank everyone who has visited the site and for all your lovely comments! This is definetly not the end, maybe its the beginning of a brand new UDW..?

Who knows? Maybe UDW will return at Christmas? If we do return, I can ensure that the site wil be revamped into one of the best, who fansites out there! But for now, It is the end...

Ultimate Doctor Who: The Official Magazine - Possible Launch

Wednesday, October 7, 2009

To be honest with all you visitors, I have become a little bored of UDW at the moment, and I think something new should be added to it to get things more like they used to be.

This has still not yet been decided, but I may be launching an online magazine based on Doctor Who sometime in the near future. I have made a pilot cover which you can view below. (Click for a larger image)

In the past 9 months I have been running UDW, I have made two attempts to produce an online magazine, but none were sucessful. I really hope for this time to be different, so I need your opinions!

All you have to do is comment on this post or in the chat box on the sidebar whether you think this is a good idea or not, if it gets the go ahead it will be monthly and completely free.
